MudOS Home

This is the official support site for the MudOS LPmud driver.

It has come to my attention that a release of what is being called MudOS 1.0 has been made. It is apparently based on MudOS 0.9.20 dating back to 1995. It is almost certainly not compatible with the releases that have been made since MudOS 0.9.20 by Beek and myself. The distribution purporting to be MudOS 1.0 is in no way affiliated with me or this site. Questions about it should not be directed here. [more]

MudOS v22.2b14 has been released. See the download link to the right.

To answer a few questions that have been popping up repeatedly recently ...

  1. Is MudOS GPL?
No, and it most likely never will be. An attempt was made several years ago to get the major contributors to sign-off on changing the license to GPL, but in the end, nothing could be done because not all of these people could be reached. I've no plans to make another attempt.
  2. Does MudOS work on Windows?
The short answer is yes; the slightly longer is yes, but it doesn't work well, and it's a pain to even get it working minimally. MudOS was written for Unix with no intentions of ever porting it to Windows (remember, MudOS is now many years old, and at the time, Windows simply was not built to act in any way, shape, or form as a server). Your best bet is to get yourself a copy of Cygwin and build MudOS in that environment. I will not support MudOS on Windows AT ALL. Sorry.
  3. Does MudOS work on Mac OS X (Darwin)?
Yes, the version released today will build on Mac OS X Panther (10.3), and should also build on older versions as well, though I haven't personally tested it on anything other than Panther. Patches to make it work on older releases are welcome, but I won't be testing them myself.
  4. Why don't your answer my email?
Most of the questions that are directed to me personally can be better answered by sending the questions out to the appropriate mailing list. I will not respond to email sent to me that should be sent to the list, and more often than not, they can even be answered by reading the material that comes in the MudOS distribution. If you can't be bothered to read what's written, then I can't be bothered to do anything except hit delete.
